Complex Multi-Asset Portfolio Management
A portfolio under steady sail

Architecture and Management of Complex Private Wealth
Substantial private wealth rarely sits within a single portfolio. It is typically held across private banks, investment managers, operating businesses, funds, direct investments, property and a range of ownership structures. For the principal and their family, the priority is therefore not simply asset selection, but maintaining consolidated control over risk, liquidity, liabilities and the quality of every material decision.
Catamaran Family Office establishes an integrated framework for the oversight and management of complex private wealth. We bring together investment strategy, principal-level governance, counterparty co-ordination and consolidated reporting, providing the family with a complete view of its wealth and the implications of each significant decision.
We work alongside the principal’s existing team, support the family investment committee or act as an outsourced Chief Investment Officer within an agreed mandate. We do not duplicate the work of private banks, investment managers or specialist professional advisers. Instead, we establish consistent standards, benchmark performance, identify gaps and conflicts, and hold each party accountable to the family’s overarching strategy.

Key Areas of Support
Investment Policy and IPS Architecture: Development or review of the Investment Policy Statement, setting out investment objectives, constraints, target returns, risk tolerance, liquidity requirements, concentration limits and decision-making responsibilities.
Strategic Portfolio Architecture: Design of a long-term asset allocation framework spanning public and private markets, currencies and geographies. We take account of family liabilities, ownership structures, faith-sensitive investment preferences where appropriate, and intergenerational wealth transfer objectives.
Alternative Investments and Due Diligence: Assessment of direct investments, funds, co-investments, club deals, property and other illiquid assets. We review the structure, commercial rationale, principal risks, counterparties, liquidity profile and documentation, engaging suitably qualified specialists where required.
Private Bank and Investment Manager Oversight: Independent comparison of mandates, fees, performance and underlying risk exposures. We monitor mandate drift, duplicated holdings, concentration risk and execution quality across UK and international providers.
Liquidity and Treasury Management: Planning and oversight of cash flow, liquidity reserves, capital commitments and currency exposures. We prepare scenarios for significant acquisitions, investments, family distributions, philanthropic commitments and other material funding requirements.
Crisis Advisory and Reputation Protection: Co-ordinated support during periods of market, regulatory or operational disruption. This may include governance of KYC profiles, source-of-wealth documentation and measures designed to protect the integrity of the family’s capital and reputation.
Consolidated Reporting and Risk Analysis: A unified view of assets, liabilities, performance, costs, liquidity, currency exposure and counterparty risk. Reporting frequency, scope and depth are tailored to data availability, governance requirements and the principal’s priorities.
